چکیده

Design speci cations for wind loads on low-rise structures still rely on reductive tables and plots that can over-simplify the highly complex nature of wind-structure interaction. The need for simpli ed information and design procedures stems in part from the limited information capacity of the current generation of design standards. The purpose of the present study is to demonstrate a prototype of a next generation, computer-based design standard for wind load speci cation on low-rise buildings. The application program WiLDE-LRS has been developed with graphical user interfaces and a Matlab computational engine, which provide a user-friendly environment for design information entry, analysis, and result visualization. More realistic wind-induced load e ects have been evaluated by WiLDE based on aerodynamic and building design databases. A complete discussion of this application is provided in this report, along with a user's manual for version 2.1 of the software.

Discussion and evaluation of a pilot project for computer-based design of low-rise buildings for wind loads

Recent research has pursued the development of a new generation of computer -based standard provisions for wind loading, using databases of aerodynamic time histories along with modern computer technologies to improve significantly the description of wind-induced design loads. A prototype computer application for the specification of wind loads on low -rise buildings has been created as part of...

CRITICAL INCIDENT ANGLE FOR THE MINIMUM COST DESIGN OF LOW, MID AND HIGH-RISE STEEL AND REINFORCED CONCRETE-COMPOSITE BUILDINGS

One of the main tasks of engineers is to design structural systems light and economic as possible, yet resistant enough to withstand all possible loads arising during their service life and to absorb the induced seismic energy in a controlled and predictable fashion. The traditional trial-and-error design approach is not capable to determine an economical design satisfying also the code require...

Analysis of Tall Buildings with Bundled Tube System Subjected to Wind and Earthquake loads

At present, the tubular structural systems are mainly used in tall buildings to withstand earthquake loads. Although it is possible to analyse the structure by finite element methods using standard three dimensional programs, the system is generally time-consuming and expensive in the primary design work. In this paper, for the analysis of Framed-Tube systems, a simple method was studied and de...

Assessment of Wind Load Effects on Low-rise Buildings Using Full-Scale Pressure Measurements

This study discusses the wind loads and their effects on Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory (WERFL) building at Texas Tech University based on full-scale synchronous pressure measurements. The wind load effects on different frames are calculated and the results are compared to those determined based on the wind loads specified in ASCE7-05. Finally, the challenges faced in the modeling o...
